back to the deep blue sea

Back to the Deep Blue sea

Today, we want to bring back a project we did some time ago, Deep Blue , a saga of 4 books in which six mermaids try to protect and save their hidden worlds spread in different places in the ocean.

Accompanying the sales launching of the first book, Gizmo produced the first animated trailer where two main characters, Seraphina and Ava, were brought to life to return to the “Great Volcano” a powerful talisman.

Based on 2D concepts developed by our Client, Gizmo turned all characters and environments into a passionate 3D world.

For this project we were after finding a realistic look and feel which would allow us to reach, through an animated world, a teenage audience, to whom this saga was aimed to. This was a huge challenge for Gizmo due to the technical complexity (characters with complex shaders and rigs , clothes simulation, fluids, development of different hair systems, VFX, etc) and in a tight Schedule of 3 and a half moths.

This is just and example of Gizmo’s expertise in character development. We have a strong R&D team of TD’s who are dedicated to improving character performance.

We have developed own in-house hair simulator for rapid fur mapping and hair dynamics to reduce render time but deliver a high standard of work.

We have finished a new high dynamic facial and body rig to enhance facial performance and body mechanics through short production cycles.

Introducing TriPeaks Characters

MV Tri Peaks 0011

We love to share our work with you and all the artwork process until a project is completed.

This time, we wanted to show you some amazing characters from the TriPeaks game trailer.

What we looked for was – without ever leaving the code – to achieve the goal of keeping the materiality of each of the elements as recognizable and faithful as possible. Just examples of this are: the leather from the pig’s hat, the wooden masks, Captain Karma’s skin, among others.

Other examples that reflect he same search are: the materiality of the rocks, plants and the water.

The look of each element has been painstakingly worked.

Gizmo reveals TriPeaks new game trailer

We’re proud to reveal the latest game trailer of Tri Peaks Solitaire, directed by Emmanuel Verruno.

Gizmo has completed this project with The Roster and the award winning mobile marketing Agency Fetch for its Client GSN Games.

It has been an amazing experience and our Artists and Producers simply love working on this kind of projects. Game trailers are our thing!

We hope you like our work as much as we enjoyed doing it every second.

The journey started with the GSN sharing some screenshots of their games and the 2D designs of the characters. We took the key elements from the game environments and developed them to create a richer 3D environment.

The first things we worked on and shared periodically with our client were the concepts. In these, we captured our intention of in-frame composition, lighting, and also the morphology of the elements that were part of each set.

These concepts were our Bible when modelling, checking shaders and most of all, lighting.

We hope you enjoy it!

tbt the worst gifter

#TBT The Worst Gifter

Today, we want to share a project we did some time ago. We are so proud of it we just can’t have enough.

Along with Circus Ad Agency and their creative team, Gizmo produced this script filled with humor to launch the Netflix “gift cards”.

One of the main challenges of this project was to create twelve small stories within 90 seconds.

The key to achieve this was to use a style of exaggerated animation, with marked poses that allowed us to quickly decode what was happening in each scene, considering that each scene could not be more than two seconds long.

The character design was crafted to enable immediate recognition. Every character has very marked and expressive features (eyes, mouth and large limbs), and very stylised and flexible bodies, which gave us a lot of freedom to generate poses and exaggerate the movements.

And last, we want to share some backgrounds from the different stories to appreciate the Art Direction and the work put on each scene by our team.

The Worst Gifter has been awarded with a Silver for Best Animation in El Ojo de Iberoamérica Festival and has also received a trophy in the Argentine Creative Circle, both in 2015.

Hope you enjoyed going through Netflix’s Worst Gifter as much as we have enjoyed working on it!

The Telescope, New film by Gizmo for The Ritz Carlton

“The Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park arranges a surprising discovery and the proposal of a lifetime. Every day, every guest, is our chance to create a lasting memory. What will you remember? Let us stay with you”

It was an honor to have the chance to work with The Ritz Carlton on the creation of The Telescope, one of three films from a campaign for the brand.

This campaign aims to tell stories from real guests and how The Ritz Carlton made their stay something memorable.

We incorporated elements such as the Central Park to reinforce the spirit and location of the Hotel.

One of the main challenges of the project consisted in telling the stories using diverse animation techniques. The different pieces were made with 2D Animation, watercolour style Animation and cut paper technique.

In “The Telescope” we worked on delicate transitions with subtle camera movements to gain greater dynamism within the 2D animation code we had chosen for this particular film.

We were looking for an elegant style, with a classical and modern look that go in hand with the concept of the Hotel.

Now, don’t miss the new piece for The Ritz Carlton: here is The Telescope

San Francisco in a minute

Some weeks ago part of our team was in San Francisco attending Game Developers Conference (GDC).

The event showcased the latest in the game industry and we had the opportunity to meet many colleagues and share our work and experience with other talented professionals.

Now everybody is back at the office and we are missing San Francisco. So we created this one minute video of our visit to The City hoping to be back there really soon.
